  • 3/4 cup pumpkin purée
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk (or milk), plus extra for brushing
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons buttermilk (or milk)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • optional: 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, ginger or cardamom

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and salt.
  3. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in pumpkin purée, buttermilk, and vanilla extract until just combined.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface; fold gently to form an 8-inch circle. Cut into 8 wedges.
  6. Place on the baking sheet and freeze for 15 minutes.
  7. Brush tops with buttermilk and bake for 13-15 minutes until golden.
  8. Mix glaze ingredients until smooth; drizzle over cooled scones before serving.
